The moon map is printed inside of a clear globe with light from a strong beam of light. The heavy glass globe has multiple layers that create depth just as the real craters do. The light bends as it passes through the carved areas creating full size pictures of all of the different moon phases. The detail in these representations comes from precision; each cut must be exactly positioned to create the right look. The result; a picture of the moon floating in mid air.

The clear K9 glass through which the moon phases can be viewed is a grade A material and maintains precise accuracy at all viewing angles so that everything inside remains crystal clear and visible. The quality and construction of the material allow light to pass through and show all of the components with extreme clarity and no distortion. Because of the build quality each of the viewing angles show the interior design with excellent clarity and accuracy.

At the bottom of the globe there is a smooth piece of natural wood with a warm light glowing from underneath. This base contains an environmentally friendly operating light and has been designed to last a lifetime without damaging the environment. A series of tiny LED lights have been installed in the base, powered by its environmentally friendly operation, and are activated quietly using a low hum. The lights emit gentle light beams rather than harsh or blinding light. As the light travels through the crystal globe above, it illuminates the crystal globe from within. The light moves out of the base through the crystal and into the room, creating a wonderful display of dance like function, caused by the movement of light through both the base and the globe of the crystal.
